This project is about Cassiopeia, an fictive astronomic complex, which includes the following five parts: a museum, an observatory, a planetarium, a magazine and online exhibitions. The origin of the name: Cassiopeia is a constellation which consists of five Stars (like the astronomic complex) and looks like a W. Therefore it is also called sky-W.
Corporate Design
The departments are differentiated by their pattern. The dark one are more likely to be visited by night and the light one by day. The black version shows a star-spattered sky with the constellation cassiopeia hidden. The lines of the light version are shown at an angle of 18°. When the sun reaches a point of 18° it is called the astronomic dawn, after this point it is astronomic dark. The used colors consists of the colors of the cassiopeia constellation stars.
Tickets
If you decide to visit the complex, you will get a ticket which kind of looks like a boarding pass (to the stars). Depending on the facilities you are visiting, you will get a gate-code: M for museum, O for observatory or P for planetarium.
The date is also shown in a big font size on the left, so if customers want to keep their tickets as a souvenir, they will always remember the date of their visit. On the back there are useful facts about stars, planets, galaxies, the universe in general and much more. So they can also be collected and traded.
Magazine
There will be a monthly issue of the Cassiopeia magazine which contains actual astronomy topics. It is about 60 pages and will be sold for € 12 to € 15. The cover design is simple, the content will be printed on a plastic foil which facilitates to printing a great astronomic picture on the paper cover without ruining it with the copy and it will also be protected by the foil.
Building
The building itself has a modern and stylish look which is created by the glass veneer and a schematic white grid surface. Also the W shape of the building which is based on the cassiopeia constellation, leads to an interesting expression of the house and allows a clear structured and also very open room arrangement.
Signage
The signage is placed all over the ceiling of the building – because you raise your head to look at the stars and to get your bearings. Actually there are not as many stars in the reduced design, so noone will get confused it will be easy to find one‘s way.
The stars are symbolized by little shields that stick out of the ceiling and show a specific icon of the place you have reached. To get there they are connected by a painted bar in the corporate colors, to differentiate the many ways.
